Jesus departs Galilee, goes past Jordan and comes to the coast of Judaea. A big crowd followed him and he healed them. The Pharisees came around picking another fight with JC asking if it was lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason they like. JC asked if they had read that god made men and women? This is why men leave their parents and find a wife do they can be one unit. They aren’t two anymore they are one. It must be that missing rib thing. What god joins together no man can part
.
They ask JC, why did Moses command to give divorces and put the woman away? He answered Moses had to say that because your hearts were hard, but back in the day isn’t wasn’t like that. So if you divorce your wife for any other reason than fornication, and remarry you are committing adultery, as is the person who marries her.
His disciples ask JC if this is the case with both men and wife, than it’s not good to marry. JC tells them that not everyone can receive this. There are some eunuchs who are born that way, others who were made that way by men, and others who have made themselves eunuchs for god. He who is able to receive it will receive it. He laid his hand s on them and departed.
Next some guy comes up to JC and asks him what good things he can do to have eternal life. JC answers, do you think I’m good? The only good is God, but you should keep the commandments. The dude asks which? And JC answers don’t murder, commit adultery, steal, lie, do honor your parents, love you neighbor as you love yourself. Ooo I only counted six commandments there, lets list the missing ones, no gods/idols before god, honor the Sabbath, don’t covet the neighbors wife, and don’t covet the neighbors goods. I don’t know if Jesus found these to be less important than the six he listed or what. The dude responds, I’ve done all of these things since I was a kid, what do I lack?
Jesus tells him if he wants to be perfect, he should give up all of his worldly possession, sell them and give the money to the poor and follow him. He’ll have treasure in heaven. When the dude heard that he was sad, because he had some awesome stuff. JC told his disciples that rich men rarely make it to heaven. It’s easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle.
This amazed the disciples, who will be saved?
With men things are impossible, but with god all things are possible. Peter asked we disciples have sacrificed everything for you, what will we have?
And JC tells them all, in the regeneration, when I sit on my throne of glory, you will sit next to me on twelve thrones, to judge the twelve tribes of Israel. And for any of you who have forsaken houses, and family, or land, in my name, you will receive a hundredfold and will inherit everlasting life. But many who are first will be last, and many of the last will be first.
Okay, that kind of sound a little like in the book of Job, when god takes everything form Job to test his faith, and when Job is found worthy he gives him an abundance of riches, and a new family to make him happy. Yeah, that’s great but maybe Job would have rather had his old family back instead. I’m just saying it’s not really the best prize. Life is personal.
How can they receive their family a hundredfold. They're don't even have husbands and wives in heaven, as we specifically learn in his answer to the Sadducees question later on. Besides, I don't want some new family, it speaks to Jesus not valuing individuals. All life is not the same, and every person cannot be replaced equally. In fact, none can. Come on JC, try to keep up here.
