Ooo it’s the feast of the unleavened bread, also known as Passover! Oh snap we know what’s coming next. The chief priests and scribes decided that it was time to figure out how to kill JC, but they were afraid of the people.
Well, they were in luck because Satan entered Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve. Wow this is the first time Satan has entered Judas, who we knew was a traitor form the heavy handed forshadowin at the beginning of this gospel.
Well, they were in luck because Satan entered Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve. Wow this is the first time Satan has entered Judas, who we knew was a traitor form the heavy handed forshadowin at the beginning of this gospel.
So Judas Iscariot now filled with Satan went to tell the priest how they could get their hands on JC. They were thrilled and gave him money for his part in this drama. Judas promised them he would betray JC when he was away from the bulk of his followers.
So the day of unleavened bread came when the Passover must be killed. JC told Pete and John to prepare the Passover. They asked him where they should prepare it? JC had all of the answers , he told them to go to the city, and you will meet a man who is carrying a pitcher of water, follow him int the house. Tell this guy the, The Master, that would be me, JC, wants to use the guest chamber for Passover with my disciples. He’ll show you into the upper room that comes furnished.
So they do that just like he said, they find the guy with the pitcher of water and the large furnished room, and made ready. JC told them “With desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer” Which is kind of fun linguistically. Stupid because why wouldn’t you just say I really want to eat this Passover with you before I’m tortured and killed. But fun none the less. JC tells that this will be his last supper with them, until the kingdom of god is fulfilled.
He took his cup and told them to divvy it ups between them. He would be drinking anymore of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes. Then he took the bread, gave thanks and broke it, telling them this is my body which is given for you: do this in remembrance of me. Then he took his cup and said this cup is the new testament in my blood which is shed for you.
Here is the hand of the guy who betrayed me right here, at this table! Sure the Son of man had to fie but woe to the dude who betrayed him! Well the disciples were all a flutter about this. Wondering who could have done such a thing? And there was a bit of conflict about who would be the known as the greatest of all of them.
JC told them that the kings of the gentiles hold lordship over them and consider themselves benefactors to them. It’s not true, but the greatest of you will be like the youth, and the chief of you should serve. Who is greater, the master or the servant, I am like you, a servant.
I’m going to let you guys who have followed me in my temptations into heaven, just like dad is going to let me into heaven. I like that JC says that, because it makes him sound kind of sinful. The line actually says “Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations” And I’m sure that people interpret temptations as troubles or trials or something noble like that. But I like that sounds like they’ve followed him into his temptations, that maybe he has indulged in some temptations. Or maybe he’s even leading them a little astray.
You my friends will eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Interesting how he just calls it his kingdom, not the kingdom of heaven.
JC says Simon, Simon, beware that Satan desires to have you. Ooo, Satan is hot for Peter! I know it’s our pal Petie, because later in this conversation he reference to him as Peter. JC continues to tell him that Satan might sift him out like the wheat. JC tells him that he has prayed for him that he won’t fail and that when he is converted he’ll strengthen his brethren.
Pete tells him he is ready to go to prison with him, even to die for him. And JC tells him that before the cock crows, he will deny JC three times.
JC tells the group, when I sent you out with nothing did you really lack anything. The group answered that they lacked nothing.
He told if you have a purse or a wallet buy a sword, sell your clothes to buy a sword. I’m telling you, the things that have been written are about to happen. My end is near. The disciples them they have two swords, and JC says that will be enough. Why do they need the swords JC? I thought you were the prince of peace and all.
So he goes out to Mount Olives and his disciples followed. He tells them to pray they don’t fall into temptation. When he was just a stone’s throw away from them, he knelt down and prayed. He asked his father if he was willing, take this cup from him, not by JC’s will but by his dad’s. An angel came down from heaven and gave him strength. JC was in agony and prayed even more earnestly. He was sweating and the sweat was falling like great big drops of blood onto the earth. I have to say I was a little more moved by the Matthew account of this scene.
When he rose up from praying, he went o his disciples and found them sleeping because they were so sad. He asked them why they slept, and told them to get up lest they enter into temptation. Wow so sleeping lead you to temptation. I am very much destined for hell.
As JC spoke Judas, one of the twelve, in case you forgot who Judas was, came with a crowd of people and kissed JC. JC asked him Judas did you just betray the Son of man with a kiss? And his disciples asked if they should start hitting people with their two swords. On of them went head and cut of one of the ears of the high priest servant. JC told him you’ve suffered and healed his ear. That was nice but JC maybe you shouldn’t let your disciples have swords.
JC asks the chief priests, captains, and elders of the temple, Are you out against a thief with your swords and staves? I was in your temple every day and you didn’t lay a hand on me but now you do when it is dark? They took him and brought him to the high priest’s house. Peter followed a ways back.
They little a fire in the hall and settled in, and Pete crept right in and sat down with them. The maid noticed him and told the people that Pete had been with JC, and Petie denied it. Another guy noticed him and said the same and Petie denied it again. Finally another guy confirmed it saying that it’s true this Galilaean was with JC. Peter was all I don’t even know what you are talking about and cock crowed. JC turned and looked right at Pete and suddenly Petie remembered what JC had told him and left weeping bitterly. Poor Pete, I mean he was just trying to see what was going on, doing a little recon work!
The men who held Jesus mocked him and hit him. Then they blindfolded him and smacked him in the face saying “Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?” And they spoke some blasphemy against him.
Once it was daytime the elders and chief priests and scribes came to council asking JC if he was the Christ? He told them if I tell you, you won’t believe me and if I ask you, you won’t answer me or let me go. After all of this the Son of man will sit at the right hand of the power of God.
So they ask him if he the son of God and he tells them yes he is. They were pleased by this and asked why do we need any further witnesses because we just heard what came out of his mouth. I’m guessing it’s some serious blasphemy to lie about being the son of God.
I have nothing much to say about this, after the third hearing it feels like an oft told tale that no longer bears repeating. I guess this is actually the fourth time reading it, since John's chapter's end a little quicker. John must have gotten his whole deal about Judas getting the devil inside him from Luke. That's kind of interesting.
