John Chapter 21

John Chapter 21

After these things Jesus showed himself again to the disciples on the Sea of Tiberias. On this particular day Peter, Didymus (Thomas), Nathanael, James and John, and two other disciples were hanging out together. Peter told the that he was going fishing. They wanted to go too, so they all jumped on a boat, fished all night, and caught nothing.

When the morning came Jesus stood on the shore, but they didn’t know it was him. He asked if they had any meat, but they told him that unfortunately they did not.

He told them to cast the net on the right side of the ship and they’d find some. They cast it and couldn’t even pull it out of the water for the number of fish they’d collected.

The imaginary disciple said to Peter, OMG it’s totally Jesus! When Peter heard this he grabbed his fisher’s coat, because he’d been fishing naked (whoa!) and jumped into the sea. The other disciples came in a little ship dragging nets filled with fish.

As soon as they came to land they saw a nice fire where fish were cooking and bread was being warmed (yum!). Jesus told them to bring the fish they’d caught. Pete went up and drew the net to land and pulled out a hundred fifty fish, and the crazy thing was, the net didn’t have one tear in it.

Jesus told them to come and dine, and even though by now they knew who he was, they asked him anyway. Jesus came and gave them bread and fish. This is now the third time JC had shown himself to his disciples after he’d died.

After dinner, JC asked Peter if he loved him more than these? Pete said, of course and Jesus told him to feed his lambs. They went through this process two more times. Jesus then told him that when he was young he could walk wherever he wanted and dress himself. However, when he was old someone else would dress him and carry him wherever he wanted. He told with this which supposedly signifying by what death Pete should glorify God. After this, he told Pete to follow him.

Peter turned to the disciples and saw the imaginary one who had been so snuggly with Jesus during dinner, he then asked JC who had betrayed him, and what they should do with this man.

Jesus said that it wasn’t Peter’s concern and told him again to follow him. He then walked around the disciples and told them that that disciple should not die. Jesus didn not say to him “He shall not die; but, if I will that he tarry till I come, what [is that] to thee?”.

Well, lo and behold, we find out “this is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.” (Do we? I think there’s some pretty candid and legitimate debate about that, far outside of what I’ve brought up).

And there are many other things that Jesus did which, if they were written would fill the world with books. Amen.

Amen! Done! Never to be revisited until I have to review the entire bible again for summation and clarification. Oh no!

  1. Of course the imaginary disciple totally recognizes JC! I have to say the book of John was certainly weird and dark.

    I"m glad when that's done.
