John Chapter 17

John Chapter 17

Jesus lifted his eyes up to his Father in heaven and said that his hour had come, glorify your son so your son can glorify you. As you’ve given him power over all flesh so that he can give eternal life to as many as you have given him. And this eternal life is a gift for knowing who the true go is and who Jesus Christ is. JC tells his dad that he’s glorified him on Earth and has finished the work that he was given to do (I’m sorry… DID he finish it at this point… what exactly was the mission here, to find twelve believers???).

He asks his dad again to glorify him (I’m not sure about all this vanity, should he really need to be glorified). He tells his papi that he has introduced himself to man and they have believed and kept god’s word. JC gave them this word and yeah, they received it and believed it and all kinds of good stuff.

JC continues talking to his dad about how he prayed, not for the world, but only for the believers (nice). “And all mine are thine, and thine are mine”, (I like that line because of it’s reflective quality), and this glorifies them both.

He goes on and on about leaving the world, but it’s okay because of his precious believers who are his and god’s and god’s and his and so on and so on. He’s so awesome because he did exactly what his daddy told him to and he didn’t lose a single sheep except for the ones that were basically already lost. He tells his dad that he speaks all these things so his followers can be joyous.

He’s given his dad’s word to his followers but the world hated them because his disciples are not of this world, just like JC isn’t. He doesn’t want his dad to take them out of the world, but only to keep them from evil. He repeats that they are not of the world and neither is he.

Sanctify them through your word, dad, because that’s truth, JC says. He tells his dad that just as he was sent into the world so he sends his followers. He doesn’t pray just for them though, but also for any additional believers who might spring up. He wants all of them to be as one, just like his dad and him. He gave the glory that his dad gave him to his disciples so they can all be one. He expounds for a while on the idea of “one-ness”.

He talks a bit more about how much his dad loves him and for how long. He goes on again about how he’s the only one who really knows his daddy. And finally concludes that as he has stated many many times the love god has for him, he has for his disciples.

Woo hoo… these chapters are a whole lot of talk and very little action.

  1. I get it John, JC and his dad have a special loving bond. And anyone who loves JC get his dad's love but anyone who loves God but doesn't love JC is out of luck. Awesome.
